Writing Can Be Lonely!

Writing can be a solitary endeavor, one that is easily sidetracked by distraction, doubt, disappointment, and the pressures of everyday life. The best antidote to these demands is a shared space for learning, community, and creativity. That’s why we built Loft Lit!Commons—to provide a personalized blend of support, guidance, and resources to help you take your next steps.

But don't take our word for it. This video gives you a taste of the kind of content waiting for you each week in Lit!Commons.

The weekly exercises really help kickoff my writing

This exercise really energized me. I've been struggling with ruminating and avoiding when I'm trying to write, wanting to know where I'm going. But this turned that off, and that's exactly what I need to do more often when I start to write!

Blair

My opportunity to work with world-class instructors in a supportive and engaging learning community.

I am writing more than ever and I'm taking concrete steps to expose my writing to a wider audience.

My favorite part of the experience is that the variety of the learning pathways has encouraged me to grow beyond my comfort zone of my selected genre to explore new styles of writing.

Aimee

I really enjoy the diversity of the offerings

There's something here for everyone. The message boards are great for keeping up and the weekly content fills my schedule.

My favorite part of this program is the ability to both work synchronous and asynchronous as needed.

Diane

I love being able to do the work in my free time and being able to do as much or as little as works!

I am really enjoying the mix of on-demand personal work, live sessions to connect, and the shared community to focus on feedback with each others' work. The prompts from sessions have sparked wonderful ideas.

Lit!Commons FAQs (with answers)

What is Lit!Commons?

Lit!Commons is a dynamic digital community from the Loft Literary Center focused on helping writers achieve the five most common creative practice goals. It offers on-demand lessons, live sessions, and a supportive community network.

Who is Lit!Commons for?

It’s for anyone who wants to take writing seriously—whether you’re starting, seeking growth, or looking for community. It’s especially suited for those who are serious about improving their writing, need guidance on habits or publishing, or crave a sense of connection with other writers.

When does Lit!Commons open?

Lit!Commons is now available. Sign up today.

What makes Lit!Commons different from other writing programs?

We know there are a lot of options out there, but we truly believe this is one-of-a-kind. You will gain access to a full suite of dedicated and diverse teaching artists. But unlike some services like this, Lit!Commons emphasizes connection and community. You will have the opportunity for live group follow-up and office hour sessions with the teaching artists and shared community of peers to help cheer you along the way—all for an affordable monthly fee.

How were the teaching artists chosen for Lit!Commons?

Our teaching artists are carefully vetted professionals, selected for both their expertise in their field and their ability to mentor and inspire our community of writers.

How much does Lit!Commons cost?

Lit!Commons offers all-inclusive access for $65 per month. There’s also an annual subscription option for $49.50 per month.

What does my subscription include?

Your subscription includes access to all content from our 10 teaching artists, live follow-up sessions, and entry into the subscriber community. You get the entire range of courses and resources without any extra cost. If we were to sell these offering individually, they would cost more than $1500/month.

Can I sample how this works?

Yes, a free sample course on goal setting goes live on March 26th. Each teaching artist will contribute a lesson to this course, so it’s a great way to get to know them and see what Lit Commons offers before subscribing yourself.

You can also sign up for Lit!Commons itself risk free for a 5-day trial.

Do I need any special tech for Lit!Commons?

You do not need any special technology to participate. Participants should have a reliable internet connection, a computer, tablet, or phone with a standard web browser, and the ability to video conference through a tool like Zoom.

It will not be available for our launch, but in the next few months, the Loft will also introduce an associated app for iOS and Android devices.
